I don't think an tranny from a diesel will fit a 230TE. The starters are on different sides. I believe it will fit a 280 though. Hey, I know a 230TE euro aroudn me with some rust that's sitting at a friends body shop. Want to trade 5 speeds??

I have a 5-Speed gear box for sale that is in a 1984 190E. Yes the starter is on the drivers side. I am selling the entire vehicle so it would be great for a little conversion. I dont mess much with the 190E but since I work on Mercedes all diffrent makes and models make their way to me weather I want them or not. I am not at the shop right now so I can post any photos but I have the vehicle up on E-bay so I will put the link here. The E-bay listing shows the transmission and such so it might be worth checking out. Also important is that I am willing to pull the transmission and all of the componets and sell them seperatly but the best deal comes buying the entire vehicle. I dont know for sure that these 190e transmissions will fit and I know they have a hydro clutch. Anyway here is the link to the E-bay listing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290130308252&rd=1,1When I get back to the shop on Monday I can post photos of the transmission. Good luck, and for what its worth the 5 speed is a riot to drive but still lacks the fun cuz its connected to a 4 cyl as I am used to a V8.

Hi , Now that I have my Euro guage cluster I am looking to install a 5 speed manual gearbox into my factory factory 4 speed car. Are there any alterations necessary when doing this...? What manual 5 speed gear box should I look for...? I have a good lead but just want to be sure I am getting the right box.....Thanks for any help you can offer !
Regards , 230TE
You have the 102 engine with black valve cover and starter on the left side. you can fit transmissions from 201 and 124 series.

i am also looking for a 5 speed manual. what about a toyota cressida w55 or w58. i would imagine a custom bell house and propshaft would be in order. not sure about the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. and what about the input bearings. can anybody share some info on this?
