Hi , Now that I have my Euro guage cluster I am looking to install a 5 speed manual gearbox into my factory factory 4 speed car. Are there any alterations necessary when doing this...? What manual 5 speed gear box should I look for...? I have a good lead but just want to be sure I am getting the right box.....Thanks for any help you can offer !
Regards , 230TE

I think the most important thing is that the starter hole is on the correct side. I've never seen a 230 model with my own two eyes but I do know that the starter is on the drivers side of M102's(LHD) which you may want to check on the 5 speed you're looking at.

A M110 manual box will not fit in a 230 as the starter hole is on the other side.

Nutz can you shed any light on BMW Jetrag 5 speed transmissions, as opposed to the M110 Jetrag 5 speed, if its not too hard to change over, it will make 5 speed conversions a lot easier for everyone.
you drive the BMWs so i figured you'd know

Hehe,I have absolutely no idea! I'll look into it by cross checking part numbers,i.e slave cylinder, clutch plate etc.

Wow, that's a big difference in size between the 4 speed and 5 speed boxes.....
" Wouldn't a W201 2.3 16V 5 speed fit that 230TE ? " Anyone know the answer to this question...? If a W201 5 speed fits my 1980 230TE that might make finding a 5 speed much easier....
